Speaker Information:

Thank you for agreeing to speak at the Silicon Valley Aquarium Society! We hope you will enjoy the experience. Here is the information you need to make your presentation a success:

PRESENTATION MEDIA
The club owns the equipment for both PowerPoint and 35mm slide presentations. We prefer PowerPoint, because our computer and projector are MUCH newer than our slide projector, but either is fine.

PowerPoint

What You Should Bring:

  • Your presentation on CD-ROM
What We Supply:
  • Windows XP laptop, 2GHz
  • Digital projector (NEC VT465, new in 2003)
  • Wireless remote control
  • Wireless PA system
35mm Slides

What You Should Bring:

  • Your slides
  • A carousel, if you have one

What We Supply:

  • 35mm projector
  • Wired remote control
  • Wireless PA system

SOFTWARE VERSIONS
We have a 2GHz laptop running Windows XP, with Office XP (PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Explorer 6). If you are using XP or older versions of PowerPoint, everything will work fine. If you are using a newer version of PowerPoint, please make certain that the XP version will handle it.

According to Microsoft, all of these versions of PowerPoint use the same file format. This means that a file created using any of these versions of PowerPoint will open in any other version.

Windows

  • PowerPoint 97
  • PowerPoint 2000
  • PowerPoint 2002 (XP)
  • PowerPoint 2003

Macintosh

  • PowerPoint 98
  • PowerPoint 2001
  • PowerPoint X

NOTE TO MAC USERS: TEST YOUR DISC ON A WINDOWS PC BEFORE THE MEETING!

CD-ROM vs FLOPPY
We prefer that you bring your presentation on CD-ROM. If it fits on a floppy disc, you can use that too, but remember that floppies can be unreliable...better bring two copies. Please note that the SVAS laptop does not have a floppy drive.

PA SYSTEM:
We will supply you with a wireless PA system, and your choice of a wireless microphone clipped to your collar or a handheld mic. If you've never used a PA system before, don't worry - our auctioneer swore he'd never use one, but he changed his mind within a couple minutes of pinning it to his collar. Your vocal cords will thank you!

Once again, thank you for agreeing to speak to our group!
